Tecomet PRODUCTION MANAGER in Kenosha, Wisconsin

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Production Manager is responsible for all production activities required to ensure that quality components are produced and shipped on-time while leading world-class manufacturing practices.  This position is integral in the development of long-range strategic planning with regard to Employee Engagement, Customer Service, Lean Manufacturing and related infrastructure that drive targeted financial objectives for sustained competitive performance.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates and contributes to the S&OP process to establish and enable supply side resources required to execute production plans.

  • Works directly with production planning and customer service to develop detailed production plans required to meet on time delivery objectives.

  • Follow up on all products being processed through the plant, which requires being pro-actively involved with upstream and downstream product movement.  Works with planning and engineering to eliminate bottlenecks and ensure smooth product flow. 

  • Coordinates with Engineering to schedule and support NPI activities into machining operations to enable successful launch initiatives.

  • Ensure that Supervisors/Team Leaders and associates are properly trained and have all equipment, information and materials necessary to be successful in production execution, machine up time and first time through quality.

  • Responsible for on time delivery, quality, and profitability.

  • Institute appropriate metrics via Gemba process to drive improvements.

  • Recruits and develops team members to improve their skills and enhance overall Symmetry capabilities. 

  • Develops and enacts succession planning to ensure long term stability.

  • Creates and executes improvement plans to support a culture of continuous improvement and drives toward a team based working environment.  Works with others to identify improvement opportunities and develops action plans to fulfill project goals.  Conduct and participate in ‘Lean Manufacturing’ projects.  Utilizes agendas, good time management tools, and leads effective meetings.

  • Ensure that all internal control documents are properly utilized within the department, as well as upstream and downstream at other departments.

  • Manage department staffing to ensure production and customer quality needs are met.  Schedule vacation time and record attendance in conjunction with the shift Supervisors / Team Leaders. Administer disciplinary actions that may be required per company policy.  Involved in interviewing, hiring and selecting candidates. Also assists in the ERP labor entries as needed.

  • Conduct quarterly reviews and semi-annual employee performance appraisals for shift Supervisors /Team Leaders.

  • Ensure that all health and safety rules and regulations are followed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or university; minimum 7 years of manufacturing experience in a leadership role or a combination of education and experience.

  • Strong machine/fabrication/manufacturing background.

  • Lean/Six-Sigma working knowledge

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  

  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  

  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
